We were truly honored to host Mr. Neranjan Ranasinghe, known as “Nira” by many rugby enthusiasts, an internationally acclaimed IRB Level 3 Rugby Coach and Mentor, who travelled all the way from New Zealand to conduct an exclusive training session with our Summa Rugby team — purely out of passion and generosity.
With an impressive coaching portfolio that includes mentoring elite Sri Lankan players such as Tarinda Ratwatte, Rushen Bandaranayake (TCK/Sri Lanka), and Nathan Gunarathne (St. Joseph’s), Mr. Ranasinghe currently serves as:
🔹 Head Coach – Auckland U16 West
🔹 Talent Identification (TID) – Auckland Rugby
🔹 U16 Coach – Mt. Albert Grammar School Rugby Academy
A proud former Trinitian and brilliant lock forward, Nira has a proven track record representing his alma mater, Kandy Sports Club, and the Sri Lanka national team with distinction. His playing days reflect not only his athletic prowess but also a deep understanding of the game, which he now passionately imparts to the next generation.
What makes this moment even more special is his strong Sumangalian legacy — as the proud son of the late Mr. Ranjith Ranasinghe, one of the most iconic goalkeepers produced by Sri Sumangala College (St. Paul’s).
His deep commitment to developing rugby at grassroots level, and his unwavering support for our boys, speaks volumes of his character and passion. The knowledge, discipline, and inspiration he shared during the session will undoubtedly shape the future of Summa Rugby.
Special Appreciation
We also acknowledge the valuable rugby insights and technical guidance drawn from the “Straight Up Rugby” platform by Mr. Boa Athu which has positively influenced our coaching approach and helped sharpen the skills of our young players.
Thank you, Mr. Nira and Mr.Boa for giving back with heart, humility, and world-class excellence. You’ve left an indelible mark on our team — both on and off the field.
